More about Vetiver and Thailand
His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand maintains principles of sustainability by making use of locally available raw materials and applying local knowledge to present-day technology. Vetiver propogation has been found feasible and economically viable for the farmers to adopt for the promotion and conservation of Thailand's natural resources.
Vetiver is plant utilized for soil and water conservation and other economic purposes. In response to the Royal initiative of His Majesty the King, more than 30 agencies from both the government and private sectors are working together on over 100 research projects involving vetiver. Vetiver is quick growing, inexpensive and easy to implement in a variety of applications.
Vetiver planting has been employed in various locations, namely in reforestation areas, on roadsides, in the soil cut areas, in land-filled areas, on flat land, around the edges of ponds and reservoirs, and in agricultural areas, as well as in farmers' plots. Vetiver prevents topsoil erosion on newly cut slope areas and large flat land plots to store moisture underground.
